great to see such a big crowd for an Indian movie at the local multiplex! IMO, "3 idiots" has benefited greatly from word-of-mouth publicity going from overseas back to India - I personally coaxed several relatives to go see it after watching it here over christmas :)

I seem to accidentally happen upon some songs (see post below on "chandni ratein") and they get stuck in my head. Same thing with this song here -

BTW, I am not Bengali & dont understand all of the wording - but he melody is so sweet - irresistible!

I searched in vain for a long time, until this showed up on YouTube - so now you have original and live here - drop me a note if you know anything more about this artist/song

Once in a while you hear a song that grabs you right away - happened to me with this wonderful track from the movie "Welcome to Sajjanpur". I dont agree with those who claim that melody has gone out of hindi film music. There were & will continue to be great, good, bad & horrendous songs. I plan to post more thoughts on this later. Meanwhile, enjoy this nice composition. The video is nice too

Madagascar meets Bollywood

Had this idea in my mind for many days - my kids were watching Madagascar for the n'th time on TV & I was listening to this song on my iPod - huh! I thought, this song really fits this video - now how I can I put the two together? needed some simple freeware tools

- used vixy.net to extract original video from (of course) YouTube
- used zamzar.com to convert the song from mp3 to WAV
- virtualdub to mix video & audio (fantastic freeware tool!)
- Windows Movie maker to add the opening credit
- upload to YouTube

Sheer genius!! One of the best movies ever.

I have seen Forrest Gump many times over, but still enjoy it.

How I found "Chandni ratein"

About 2-3 years ago I found a remix version of the song "Chandni ratein" - absolutely loved it. For what ever reasons, the ID3 tags said "Bally sagoo" ??? no way Bally Sagoo could have composed such a lovely tune. Later I found it came from the remix album "Distant voices" and was sung sung by someone called Shamsa Kanwal... still I could not find the original

then earlier this week I stuck gold - I found the original version sung by Noor Jahan!
